At North States Utility Contractors, Inc., we believe our
safety policies contribute to our success.
It is mandatory for all employees to attend regular safety
meetings. We have implemented a training program for new
employees which enables them to be flexible in both the
gas and electric areas. Employees have attended two safety
meetings presented by J.I. Case Corporation and one Western
National Insurance Company.
All employees are required to meet utility safety standards.
Crews are careful to sign jobs properly and wear safety
vests. Crews are provided with safety glasses, rubber gloves,
first aid kits, ear protection, orange vests, rain gear
and hard hats.
North States Utility Contractors, Inc. also has a substance
abuse policy that includes a random drug testing program
which is in accordance with the requirements of government
regulations.
The business office and shops are extremely well organized
and clean. Custom built racks and shelves hold everything
from tools to road signs and supplies. Hoses and Cords are
coiled and hung. Employees care for their trucks as if they
were their own and are required to keep them clean. Mobile
phones are in all trucks for emergency situations.
Quality control extends to every piece of equipment. Machinery
is completely reconditioned each winter because extensive
maintenance has resulted in efficiency and dependability
for North States Utility Contractors, Inc.
Operator Qualification was implemented in 2002 to increase
pipeline safety. A standardized procedure was adopted throughout
the various utility companies and contractors to standardize
the installation and pipeline safety. Here at North States
we have two Certified Operator Qualified Evaluators on staff
with thirty years of field experience each. These Evaluators
continue to oversee, test and train the employees for the
many updates and changes that occur in the gas field as
well as interpret and relay valuable information relating
to the various tasks performed. North States Utility Contractors,
Inc. is an associate member of WUA, so as to keep up with
this ongoing process.
